Just this summer, 2 days before he left for a week at Lake Chelan with Nana & Papa, Ocean got his FIRST loose tooth. During his Pre-Kindergarten year as well as Kindergarten we have heard the stories come home of the other children in class who have lost teeth (sometimes even during class!) and we've heard the myths about the tooth fairy and towards the end of the school year heard how Ocean was the only kid who hasn't lost a tooth. For a boy so obsessed with NOT having lost a tooth yet we expected more disappointment from him when JAGUAR lost her first tooth on Wednesday night. Yes, Jaguar, a full two years younger lost her first tooth before her older brother!
Unfortunately for her (and the tooth fairy) she did not know the myths of the tooth fairy and the tooth fairy assumed she knew.
Thursday morning I was awakened by a distraught Jag telling me that the tooth fairy TOOK her tooth! When asked if she was left a reward or surprise she quickly dismissed it with "yeah, just some money" and continued "But she TOOK my TOOTH!" She left my room and I decided I might as well get up. A few minutes later when I passed her room I saw Jag lying on her bed sobbing into her pillow. When asked what was wrong the answer was the same as before "The tooth fairy TOOK my tooth!"
My heart was breaking for her. I guess she didn't know that was part of the game. I nearly got the tooth for her, but had visions of the kids with their "treasures" and a pocket full of human teeth wasn't a happy thought!
